Please Note: All parents are asked to have buy-in for their child's education. This keeps them responsible and committed to the program. However, what we ask of the parents by no means covers the true expenses of this quality education. We are offering these sponsorship opportunities to supplement the extra expenses.

HSMS ACADEMY

The need for quality education in Haiti is overwhelming. 50% of children don’t even attend school. 60% of those attending won’t make it through 6th grade. 80% of teachers providing the available education don’t have even the basic qualifications to be a teacher. In a country that can’t seem gain any kind economical or social stability, education, in particular, in the youth of Haiti is critical to changing the tide of Haiti’s long history of poverty and suffering. The skill of English fluency alone, can open up innumerable doors of opportunity through furthered learning and or job openings and promotion.

HSMS is proud to offer Jérémie, Haiti a school that is the 1st of its kind in the region– a Dual Language Immersion Program. We offer a half school day in English by Americans and a half day in French by governmentally licensed Haitian French teachers. We follow the important Haitian curriculum standards in their official French language, but we additionally provide a highly renowned American English curriculum. We create a learning environment, use manipulatives and creative games and activities to solidify concepts and skills. Our school marches to another tune. We have a strict calendar, attendance policy, and discipline that most Haitian schools lack. We involve our parents in meetings, school presentations, and parties. Despite the high demand and intensity of learning two languages during the day, parents and staff are beyond pleased with the results we are seeing at the end of each year. We have an amazing teaching staff that we are confident is providing a top quality education in all of our region.

HSMS LEADERSHIP PROGRAM
Sometimes what you see at the surface is not what is actually the heart beat of an organization. From 2012 the vision of a Leadership Program has been developed to become the core mission of HSMS, and is honestly what HSMS is all about. We are committed long term to build up and transform the future leaders of Haiti through education and discipleship, as well as, community development.

Barna Research studies says, “a person’s worldview is typically developed between the ages of about 18 months and 13 years,” with 90% of Christians believing the parents/family has the greatest influence on a child’s developmental formation. These stats going hand in hand with Proverbs 22:6, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” We have made it our mission to begin to transform the mindset and beliefs through a program with a family-style atmosphere that touches the heart, soul, mind and strength of the children in Haiti.

According to Jesus’ model, he had 12 disciples who did life and ministry alongside him. Keeping WITHIN their family and society, we have hand selected a several children ages 6-8 with inherent leadership traits to participate in an intensive leadership development program Monday through Friday. We cultivate leadership traits and nurture in them a paradoxically new mentality on life outside of the typical Haitian poverty mindset. We intentionally instill an “I can” mentality, a more expanded world perspective, a more culturally rounded attitude, a sense of responsibility and discipline, and an educated belief of their purpose in life. The children are exposed to education programs and videos on computers and iPads, to serving others in community outreach, introduction to different tools and skills, multi-language acquisition, and spiritual growth in the Word and relationship to God and others. Our HSMS team sees each child individually as who God has made them and patiently encourages them to be all that God has called them to be. We believe that the youngest generation of Haiti can change their nation’s destiny.

ADULT ENGLISH PROGRAM

This program was launched in 2019 by high demand. HSMS has several native English speakers and have finally decided to offer Jérémie professionals and business owners a high level Adult English Program. Haiti is strongly influenced by the Western World and has much contact with English speaking non-governmental organizations, religious missions, medical ventures sponsored by foreigners, and western world business investors. In a country that struggles to offer the World distinction and who are often bound by a Haitian Creole language barrier, English puts an individual a head above the rest for employability furthered learning opportunities.

The HSMS Adult English School has 4 sessions consisting of 3-4 months, 3 times a week with class time learning grammar, vocabulary, and lots of practical dialogue and conversation activities with American native teachers. We hold bi-weekly English clubs to encourage even more practical English communication and vocabulary usage. Our Adult English Program is not the only offered English classes in Jérémie and we are a bit more expensive than the others, but we offer the ONLY Native English speaker teachers who run the program with a professionally organized course and curriculum.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

This initiative is one of our favorites. We believe that we are in Haiti to be the hands and feet of Jesus and to touch the community through acts of service and evangelization. HSMS intentionally plans at least 2 community outreaches every week. Each week, we do a children’s ministry that ministers love and the Word of God to about 120 kids at a mountainside village near Jérémie. Our hearts go out to these kids who lack parental care and life direction. We bring the kids together with games, worship, a bible skit (done by our very own leadership program kids), and then we break off into smaller gender and age appropriate groups to talk about life, leadership, and God. Later in the week, we alternate between hospital visits, ministering love at the elderly home, a service project, or door-to-door evangelism. We have committed to develop relationships with a new prison ministry that is held on the last Friday of every month. We bring hygiene kits and we split off as leaders to do a bible study with each of the cells.

We also LOVE to put on open air preaching events and church conferences. We have done a youth purity conference for 200 young people, a 3 day women’s conference for 175 pastors' wives and women leaders, a marriage conference of 80 pastor/wife couples, spiritual encouragement conferences of 100-200 people, open air worship services, and 3 day village crusades. We plan on doing 5 weekend crusades this next year through the Grand’Anse region. We are excited as God provides for that and the Holy Spirit blesses that ministry.

In the past, we have been able to physically bless families in a sustainable way with over 20 goats, over 800 gallons of seeds for planting crops, roof rebuilds, microloans, water filters, and paid children school tuitions.

THE BUILDING PROJECT

HSMS often gets occasions to bless people and families through building projects. Meeting physical needs plays a huge part in blessing the people of Haiti as the Lord leads and provides. Jérémie has about 7 slum villages that consist of hundreds of families living in dirt-floor, 10x10, rusty sheet metal made shacks with the best ones covered with a tattered tarp to escape the rain.

We have been able to supervise full concrete house builds, roof re-builds, community latrine/shower projects, community cisterns for public water, and church builds. In 2018, we built a project that had 4 showers, 4 toilets and a community cistern. It serves hundreds of people who were previously forced to relieve themselves in the ocean or the nearby trash
dump.
